Anime Like Arakawa Under the Bridge
A man falls into a river to escape his family's debt obsession and wakes up more indebted than ever, to a girl living under a bridge who thinks she's a starfish. The joke never stops being funny because the show refuses to explain why any of these people live the way they do. Ko keeps showing up because somewhere between the absurdity and the genuine weirdness of these bridge residents, he stops performing the person his family wanted him to be. SYNOPSIS
Ko Ichinomiya has built his entire identity around one principle: never owe anyone anything. That changes the moment he tumbles into the Arakawa River and gets pulled to safety by Nino, a cheerful young woman who lives under the bridge. Now he's stuck, bound by his own code to repay his debt, and Nino's request is simple: help her fall in love. What starts as a straightforward goal spirals into something far stranger. The riverbank is home to an eccentric collection of people: a temperamental kappa with a short fuse, a cross-dressing nun who dispensed unsolicited life advice, and a man who genuinely believes he's a rock star despite his complete lack of talent. Each day brings new chaos, new friendships, and new reasons why Ko can't seem to leave. Between the absurdity and genuine warmth, something unexpected happens. Ko begins to question whether his old life of rigid self-reliance was ever really living at all. The bridge becomes less a trap and more a refuge, filled with people who are beautifully, unapologetically weird.
