Chiyo confesses her crush and Nozaki hires her as a manga assistant instead, then the show spends twelve episodes finding every possible angle of comedy in that single misunderstanding without ever resolving it. The writing uses manzai timing, where jokes land because of character rhythm rather than punchlines, and every side character exists to bounce off Nozaki's obliviousness in a different way. You watch this show for the comfort of watching people who genuinely like each other figure out how to be together through the slowest, funniest possible path, knowing full well the romance might never actually happen.

Chiyo Sakura finally works up the courage to confess her crush to Nozaki, a stoic classmate. She pours her heart out, only to have him completely misread the situation. Nozaki assumes she's applying to be his manga assistant and promptly offers her the job instead of acknowledging her feelings. The catch: he's a successful shoujo manga artist operating under a female pen name, and she has no idea. Rather than walk away empty-handed, Chiyo accepts. At least she'll be close to him, even if it's not the romantic scenario she imagined. What unfolds is pure comedy as she gets roped into his creative process, helping him figure out what girls find romantic while he remains oblivious to her actual feelings. Along the way she befriends a crowd of quirky schoolmates, and Chiyo discovers that getting closer to someone doesn't always look the way you plan.
