The first episode feels like nothing happens. By episode seven you realize nothing needs to happen, because the point was always just watching these people exist together in the same space. Each character gets their own episode to breathe, to be weird, to matter in ways the plot never needs to justify. It's a visual novel adaptation that somehow avoids feeling like an advertisement by caring more about a single conversation between two characters than about moving toward any finish line. The show doesn't build toward anything. It just keeps finding reasons for everyone to come back.
Konomi Yuzuhara finishes middle school and enrolls at the same high school as Takaaki Kono, a friend she has known since childhood. When the new school year gets underway, the two cross paths with Tamaki Kosaka, another childhood friend, and meet plenty of new faces along the way. None of them realize yet that these meetings will spark a string of memorable adventures together. The TV series mixes comedy, drama and romance with everyday slice of life moments across 13 episodes. Despite the title, it is not a sequel to the first To Heart anime, though Takaaki and Konomi closely resemble that earlier story's leads.
