Takemichi keeps failing the same person in different timelines, and the show keeps making you watch him realize it. Every loop is another way Hinata dies, another timeline where he wasn't good enough, another version of himself he has to become. Season 2 digs into the horror of that, not just the mechanics, a kid who literally rewound time and still can't save the one person who mattered, stuck fighting a gang war that was never supposed to happen because of something he broke.

Takemichi keeps failing. No matter how many times he leaps backward through the years, he can't stop Hinata's death in the present. There, the Tokyo Manji gang has grown into a criminal empire under the scheming Kisaki, a side effect of Takemichi's own meddling, and it has abandoned the ideals it held under Mikey. Feeling hopeless, Takemichi jumps to the past again to look into Black Dragon, a rival motorcycle gang whose actions lead to Hinata's fate. In the past he meets the young Hakkai Shiba, a fellow Tokyo Manji member whose older brother Taiju rules Black Dragon with an iron fist. After Taiju beats Takemichi badly in a street fight, Hakkai tries to quit Tokyo Manji to apologize, and Takemichi has to stop him to keep him from a grim future. Bonding with Chifuyu Matsuno over a shared loss, Takemichi works to change what becomes of Black Dragon's members and win a happier future for the people he loves.
