Studio Khara is developing a new animated film based on Space Battleship Yamato. The project was revealed at a screening marking the franchise's 50th anniversary, with Hideaki Anno, Yutaka Izubuchi and Ryuusuke Hikawa in attendance. Anno said his studio had secured the rights to both the franchise and its soundtrack, clearing the way for a fresh work, with production set to begin in 2025. The film is a science fiction action adventure with dramatic elements, and its title is still provisional.
