The whole franchise turns inside out when Lum loses what makes her Lum. What follows isn't a heist to get her powers back, it's a town-wide fever dream where reality keeps folding in on itself, and the movie stops pretending to be about plot at all. By the end you're not watching a story resolve. You're watching the show admit what it's actually been about: the specific gravity of one person in your life, and how everything collapses when they're gone, even if they're standing right next to you.

Strange events begin to unfold in Tomobiki Town. While Lum and her friends are in the middle of making a movie, a great cherry tree called Tarozakura is felled, and Lum is left without her horns and without her powers. What follows is billed as the most unusual and poetic of the Urusei Yatsura films, a 1986 feature that mixes comedy, romance and drama with its science fiction setting.
