A girl steps out of a mirror offering friendship and magical powers, and the show immediately starts peeling back what that actually costs. Ichika, a 14-year-old at Kamakura Girl's School, finds a cracked mirror in an unused school building on the last day of the term. When a girl named Manatsu steps out of it and offers her friendship for the summer, she brings an unexpected gift: magic. Ichika's summer becomes a training period in which she must learn to draw on the power of the twelve Djinn who watch over the world. What starts as an exciting prospect soon grows complicated, as the sights the spirits show her give way to heavy thoughts. As the summer goes on, Manatsu's generous offer may do more harm than good. The result is a psychological, dramatic take on the magical girl genre.
