Claudia's arc alone justifies the watch, watching her go from untouchable ace to someone who has to admit she was wrong hits different when the show earns it through character work instead of plot convenience. The slice-of-life downtime between apocalypse battles feels unnecessary at first, then becomes the reason you care when someone doesn't come home. It's a show about girls who have to save the world before they're ready to save themselves, and it treats both halves of that sentence with equal weight.

An alien menace known as the Pillars appears on Earth, pushing humanity to the edge of despair. In humanity's darkest hour, the god Odin intervenes, bestowing a select group of young women with divine power and access to spirit fighter planes. These chosen warriors, known as Valkyries, become Earth's only defense against an overwhelming threat. Claudia Bruford, the top pilot of Europe's Valkyrie unit, is transferred to Japan to replace an S-class Valkyrie killed in combat. Because she has come back alone from every mission she has flown, she carries the nickname Grim Reaper and expects to be avoided at her new post in Tateyama.
