A show about high schoolers piloting tanks in combat sports shouldn't work, but it does because every single person involved treats it like it matters, like nationals and teamwork and precision gunnery are worth taking seriously. The tank battles are animated with such clarity and weight that you forget the premise is ridiculous and start caring about shell trajectories and turret rotation speed. What makes it stick is the comedy doesn't punch down at the girls for doing something weird; it comes from the absolute sincerity with which they've built an entire competitive world around it.

Sensha-do, a traditional martial art built around fighting with World War II era tanks, holds a place in this world alongside tea ceremony and flower arranging. Miho Nishizumi comes from a respected family of Sensha-do practitioners, but a traumatic event drove her to quit and opened a rift with her relatives. She transfers to Oarai Girls Academy because it has no tank program. Then the school revives Sensha-do for the upcoming national tournament, and the student council president forces her to enroll. Joined by driver Mako, gunner Hana, radio operator Saori and tank-loving loader Yukari as Anko Team, Miho must face her past and command a squad of tanks to keep her school from closing.
