A girl embarrasses herself in front of the most popular boy in school and somehow that becomes the realest love story you'll watch. The show spends zero time on grand gestures or dramatic reveals. Instead it picks apart what it actually feels like to be inside a relationship that matters, when you're still figuring out who you are. By the end you understand why people either worship this show or abandon it halfway through, because it refuses to give you the relief of easy answers or manufactured closure. The animation falls apart in places. The second half repeats the same argument cycle hard enough to test your patience. But the emotional core never wavers: two people learning to stay, even when staying is harder than the fantasy of being together.

Nanami starts high school hoping to make lots of friends, only to embarrass herself in front of the whole class. The culprit is Motoharu Yano, the boy most of the girls are said to adore, who fooled her into calling out a made-up name during class nominations. She is angry at first, but after a few more encounters she starts to like him, and the two eventually begin dating. Their romance is not easy. Yano struggles to open up because his first girlfriend, Nana, the older sister of Nanami's classmate Yuri, died in a car accident the year before while she was with one of her exes. Living in the shadow of that past, Nanami and Yano fight to hold their relationship together through misunderstandings and heartache. The result is a romantic slice-of-life drama about first love and growing up.
