Drawing on Chinese mythology, with Journey to the West among its sources, this action film brings a crowded pantheon of deities to the screen. Its heroes are minor gods near the bottom of the heavenly ranks, living in a turbulent world where belief has fallen apart. Rather than accept the lot assigned to them, they resist what fate has decreed and set out to reshape what lies ahead of them.
