This is a 25th anniversary special that gives you the one thing the original series never quite had: why Kurama and Hiei actually trust each other. The prequel episode explaining their first meeting feels obligatory on paper, but it matters because it recontextualizes every partnership moment that follows. The second half reunites the whole cast for a hostage crisis that's pure fanservice, except it's the right kind, it knows exactly what you came back for.

Released as a bonus in the 25th anniversary Blu-ray box set, this special adapts two stories from the Yu Yu Hakusho manga. The first comes from the "Two Shot" bonus chapter printed in the seventh volume and shows how Kurama and Hiei first met. The second is "All or Nothing," the manga's second-to-last chapter, in which the main characters come back together to resolve a hostage crisis in the spirit world. Expect supernatural action mixed with comedy.
