The TV run left you standing on a promise with no payoff, and these four episodes are the collection notice. Rachel Gardner and Isaac Foster get out of the building, and the story immediately asks the uglier question: what does a bandaged killer with a sickle do in a world that has courts, hospitals, and locked doors? The floors of that tower were a game with rules. Here there is no B4, no altar, no scripted trial, just two people who only make sense to each other and a vow neither one is willing to renegotiate. Yuuma Nagatomo doesn't beg to be liked in these episodes, and Ray's flat little voice still lands like a scalpel. If you spent the whole series waiting to see whether Zack keeps his word, this is where you find out, and it is exactly as tender and as awful as you feared.
