A store manager possessed by pure combustible enthusiasm for anime merchandise becomes the entire plot, and GAINAX animates it like they're being paid by the frame rate. Two minutes of relentless, flamboyant chaos that moves so fast you don't have time to question why a dying wish involves running an anime shop. The animation style alone, all sharp angles and explosive energy, makes it instantly recognizable as the studio's work, even when the thing on screen is technically just a commercial.

Anizawa Meito is a blazing store manager whose heart belongs to animation merchandise. After a rival store attacks the former manager, who survives, Meito takes up that manager's dying wish and becomes store manager of Animate, a newly opened shop specializing in animation goods. His scarlet store manager visor is his trademark. The single action OVA was animated by GAINAX and directed by Anno Hideaki. It grew out of a promotional character that Shimamoto Kazuhiko created for Animate, the real Japanese retailer, and that character was also adapted into a manga and a weekly radio drama.
