Peace seems assured until the Galbeston Empire strikes without warning, transforming a voyage of discovery into a desperate struggle for survival. When conventional defenses fail, humanity deploys its ultimate weapon: Dairugger XV, a colossal robot built for exploration but capable of immense destruction. Its pilots must learn to work as one organism, combining skill and instinct to fight an enemy empire bent on conquest. But as the battles escalate, the crew discovers something unexpected.
