A present-day elementary school student is thrown back through time and ends up watching the life of Aterui, a real leader of the Emishi people who resisted the Imperial Yamato Court. The movie mixes historical fact with invention, using the boy's journey into the past as the way into an adventure built around this historical figure and his fight against the imperial court.
