This is the one that drops Marvel's daywalker into a Madhouse horror show and lets him bleed for it. It's the last and meanest entry in that 2011 Marvel Anime block, and where the others played hero, Blade plays hunter: twelve episodes of a man chasing Deacon Frost across Asia because Frost put fangs in his mother before he was ever born. Existence isn't a cabal of gothic aristocrats, it's a lab, and Frost's modified vampires come out wrong in ways the show is happy to linger on. The action is all silver and sunlight, sword work staged with actual weight, and the color palette stays sick and bruised the whole way through. There's even a Logan cameo for the people who watched the whole block in order. What lands isn't the vampire killing, it's how little joy Blade takes in any of it.

Blade is a half-vampire who hunts the creatures of the night. A vampire attacked his mother while she was carrying him, so he was born a Daywalker, with both human and vampire blood. He has a vampire's strength, keen senses and power to heal, yet sunlight does not harm him, and he pairs these gifts with skill in armed and unarmed combat. A mission brings him to Japan, where he goes after Deacon Frost, the vampire who attacked his mother. Frost commands Existence, a group of vampires he has altered himself, and Blade must face them. The series mixes action, drama and supernatural horror.
