Kamito's the only guy who can do what priestesses do, so every girl at the academy either wants to recruit him or prove she doesn't need him. The show knows this setup is borrowed and moves fast enough that you stop noticing. Each character gets a real reason to care about him beyond "mysterious transfer student," and the team dynamics in Blade Dance actually matter instead of just being setup for ship wars.

In a world where only pure maidens can form contracts with spirits, Kamito Kazehaya becomes the lone male elementalist after accidentally claiming a spirit that student Claire Rouge was preparing to bind during a purification bath. Claire decides Kamito should serve as her contracted spirit instead. At Areishia Spirit Academy, where noble girls train to summon spirits from Astral Zero, Headmaster Greyworth asks him to enroll. He reluctantly agrees in return for information about his former spirit, Restia Ashdoll. He must also build a team and win the Blade Dance, a battle festival two months away that decides the most powerful elementalist. Fantasy action mixes with comedy, romance and ecchi.
