A kid trying to understand why his brother fell into the 90s Gyaru-o rabbit hole becomes the real mystery, not the subculture itself, but the person he thought he knew. The film watches you watching someone else's obsession, which means you're doing the same detective work the narrator is, breaking into rooms that were never meant for you. It's a student film that moves like a short story, specific enough to feel like a real memory, strange enough that you'll think about it days later.
When the narrator is a child, their older brother becomes fixated on gyaru-o, a Japanese subculture of teenage boys from the 1990s. The brother's strange new look leaves the younger sibling baffled, so the narrator starts slipping into his room to hunt for whatever he is hiding. The film is a short comedy with a mystery angle, made as a first-year work in 2021 in the animation department of the Graduate School of Film and New Media at Tokyo University of the Arts.
