Bu Baichi is a gourmet from the era of the Classic of Mountains and Seas. He sets out to explore the famous mountains and seas recorded in its pages and finds all of it astonishing. Along the way, familiar legends get turned on their heads. The mermaids of Chinese fairy tales are not lovely young women at all. People in ancient times already fed their workers the meat of the Changfu bird so they would keep laboring forever. Instead of an elegant young woman, the Queen Mother of the West turns out to be an eccentric old lady. Even Yu the Great, while bringing the flood under control, battles water goblins. Across 41 episodes, the comedy gathers the most entertaining tales from the classic text, suiting viewers who enjoy Chinese mythology played for laughs.
