The show stops performing for you and starts breaking character instead. Season one kept Dazai as the mystery box; season two cracks him open and forces you to watch what breaks inside. Every member of the cast gets a moment where you understand what they cost to save, and the weight of that doesn't leave when the episode ends.

Dazai once belonged to the Port Mafia, spending evenings at the Lupin Bar with two men he counted as friends: the low-ranking mafioso Sakunosuke Oda and the intelligence agent Angou Sakaguchi. Then one night Angou disappears, and a single photograph of the three is all that remains. In the present, Dazai works for the Armed Detective Agency. The Guild, a group of gifted Americans, sets out to seize the Agency's work permit, leaving the Agency to deal with both the Guild and the Port Mafia, each opposed to its existence. The season mixes action, comedy, mystery and the supernatural.
