Ohahai doesn't retell fairy tales, he warps them into something colder, where the moral you expected dissolves into something meaner. Each story strips away the comfortable parts of folk wisdom and shows you what actually happens when wishes are granted or curses are real. These are animal fables for people who stopped believing in lessons.

Set in the community that gives it its title, Burning Village is a ten-episode OVA from 1989 built around animal folk tales. Ohahai, a local eccentric, retells a number of well-known fairy tales and takes plenty of liberties with them along the way. Its genre labels are fantasy and horror.
