Soccer you've never seen before hits different when the other team is better at literally everything. Japan's kids show up in Europe thinking they know the game, then get taught a lesson by players who've been building toward this moment their whole lives. The Tachibana brothers' acrobatic goal means nothing to an opponent with actual tactical superiority, and that shift, from "we're the heroes" to "we're the underdogs," is where this movie lives.

Japan's youth soccer squad travels to Europe to face an all-star team of the continent's best young players, in a film set at the close of the first TV series. The Japanese boys soon meet opponents with a level of skill and strength they have never encountered. The Tachibana brothers strike early with their acrobatic style of play, but the Europeans are superbly organized, and Germany's captain Karl-Heinz Schneider seems impossible to stop. When goalkeeper Wakashimazu is overwhelmed by Schneider, the injured Wakabayashi takes his place in goal. The result is a sports film built around a single high-stakes international match.
