Anime Like Slam Dunk
A delinquent with a lie gets dragged into basketball and accidentally becomes someone worth believing in. SYNOPSIS
Hanamichi Sakuragi arrives at Shohoku High as a freshman with two things working against him: a towering frame and hair the color of a warning light. Fifty girls rejected him in middle school, and his reputation as a troublemaker precedes him. Everything changes when Haruko Akagi talks to him without flinching. She asks a simple question: do you like basketball? Hanamichi, already smitten, lies and says yes. What starts as a desperate attempt to impress a girl becomes something entirely different when Haruko introduces him to the sport itself. At the gymnasium, Hanamichi discovers he might actually have talent. The problem is Rukawa, a freshman phenom already recognized as one of the country's best prospects. Now caught between genuine passion for the game and rivalry with his crush's other connection, Hanamichi faces a choice. He can keep pretending to fit the image of tough guy everyone expects, or he can actually become the player this sport demands. Basketball becomes his unexpected path forward, one slam dunk at a time.
