Seirin High's basketball team recruits two freshmen with wildly different strengths: Taiga Kagami, a gifted player just back from America, and Tetsuya Kuroko, an unassuming student whose near-invisible presence lets him move around the court unnoticed. Kuroko turns out to be the Phantom Sixth Man of Teikou's champion team, whose five prodigies were known as the Generation of Miracles. Those five went their separate ways after graduating and now see each other as rivals. Kagami and Kuroko form a partnership, with Kuroko acting as the shadow to Kagami's light, and vow to defeat these legendary players. Alongside their Seirin teammates, they set their sights on the Interhigh championship, where Kuroko's former teammates stand in their way.
