Mirai, Ayaka and Kyouko were promised the idol pipeline by Sayo and her shadowy organization, then marched into an arcade instead, and Galaxy runs that same bait and switch with the word GALAXY bolted onto the front. Nothing here is trying to wound you. The stakes read apocalyptic on paper and land completely weightless in practice, which is the entire joke: three girls debating claw positioning while rocks close in on the planet. If you stuck around for a second season, it was never about the asteroids. It was about watching these three treat a plastic prize crane as the most serious thing in the universe.

After using crane games to save Earth from an asteroid strike, the Crane Game Girls have become the most popular idol group on the planet. Their triumph carries a sour note, though: their manager Saya vanished on the day of their final mission. Then Dark Cherry, an idol unit out to conquer Earth, crashes one of their live shows and demands a showdown, and Saya turns up as its manager.
