The moment a gorilla shows up to high school like he belongs there, you realize this show doesn't follow any rules you know. Takashi Kamiyama is a polite, easygoing pacifist with a slightly above-average IQ, and for reasons he prefers not to share, he enrolls at Cromartie High School, a notorious gathering place for the toughest and often dimmest delinquents around. His new surroundings include mohawked punks, pencil-chewing thugs, a gorilla, a robot classmate named Mechazawa, and a hulking figure called Freddie who comes with his own theme music. Kamiyama earnestly devotes his school life to improving Cromartie's reputation while the students around him seem set on causing chaos. The result is a short-format comedy built on surreal, deadpan absurdity.
