A real pelican and a kid trying to stop a war by finding his parents. The movie stakes everything on the belief that one child's love is enough to matter against the world's violence. Sho and Katta-kun don't negotiate with armies or expose corruption, they just show up and refuse to accept that some separations are permanent.

Sho is a little boy whose parents have gone to the Middle East for work. Back in Japan, he makes friends with Katta-kun, a pelican living in Tokiwa Park in Ube, modeled on a real bird that once lived there. When war erupts, the boy and his feathered companion head to the Middle East together, determined to rescue Sho's parents and bring the fighting to an end. The film is an animated adventure built around this unusual friendship.
