A demon god drags a high school girl into the underworld to save his sister, and the 1988 animation moves like nothing else from that era, fluid, deliberate, gorgeous in its darkness. The mythological premise has weight; this isn't decoration, it's the engine. Watch it for the art, but you'll stay because Deimos and Minako's chemistry generates real tension across the visual storytelling alone. The story cuts off mid-narrative and assumes you know the manga, which means new viewers hit a wall. That's not a flaw if you know what you're walking into.
Minako Ifu, a high school girl, draws the attention of Deimos, the former god of terror. Zeus turned him into a demon as punishment for his forbidden love for his twin sister Venus, the former goddess of love, who was locked away in the Swamp of Death. To save her, Deimos must bring Minako, who appears to be Venus reborn, down to the underworld so that Venus can take over her body. Minako, meanwhile, is searching for her friend Hisamatsu, who vanished while looking for a master orchid grower. Along the way Deimos confronts her and declares she will be his bride. She flees and finds the home of the infamous botanist, where she meets the siblings Touko and Kaname Ooba, only to become caught up in something sinister while Deimos keeps following her. The single OVA adapts one chapter of the manga and blends horror, mystery, fantasy and romance.
