Three episodes, and Masami Obari spends every frame of them making armor look like it has opinions. This is the OVA where the hero shows up in Tomoru's head before he shows up in the sky, a bonding that plays less like a power-up and more like a haunting, and the Evoluders arrive as the answer to a question Orgun did not want asked. Zoalde is the reason it lands: an enemy who fights like he already knows how this ends and resents you for making him do it. Then Susumu Hirasawa's score comes in over the transformation work and the whole thing stops being 1991 mecha product and starts being a mood you carry around for years. Cel-era light blooming off shoulder plating, held a beat longer than it needs to be. And underneath all of it, a kid in a comfortable future city being handed somebody else's war.

Orgun is an alien being with powers far beyond human and weapons from another world, and he has fled from his own people. He travels to Earth hoping to learn where he truly comes from. There he forms a bond with a young man named Tomoru, and the two stand together to protect the planet from the Evoluders, a force that exists only to wipe out other civilizations.
