The gate closed six years ago and nobody knows why, and now you're standing in the wreckage of a childhood you thought was finished. Toei's animation stumbles hard in places, but the actual story doesn't care, it drags you back into Odaiba with the original voice cast still in your ears, and by the time Kuwagamon hits the screen, you understand what this is really about: not saving the world again, but saving what you lost when you grew up. The Butterfly theme plays and it lands because this movie knows exactly who it's made for.

Six years have passed since Taichi and his friends first crossed into the Digital World, and the gate between the worlds has been shut for three years for reasons no one understands. Now in his second year of high school, Taichi is unsure of his future while his friends drift apart on their own paths. Then a Kuwagamon appears in Odaiba, wrecking the town and throwing electronics into chaos. Taichi chases it alone and is soon cornered, until his old Digivice lights up and Agumon returns to fight beside him. Together they beat the Kuwagamon, but questions remain: why did it cross over, what is happening in the Digital World, and how is Meiko Mochizuki, the new transfer student in Taichi's class, tied to it all? The film is a story about growing up while being pulled back toward a childhood adventure.
