The original cast doesn't come back as cameos, they're woven into the story as the weight you carry, the standard you're measured against. Davis isn't likable because he's written sharp; he's likable because watching him fail upward against an actually threatening villain forces you to care whether he deserves to be the chosen one. Armor digivolution feels less like power creep and more like desperation, you're not getting stronger, you're getting creative because the Emperor doesn't play by season one rules.

Years after the first Chosen Children saved the Digital World, a new threat emerges. The mysterious Digimon Emperor is enslaving the Digital World's Digimon and somehow blocking their ability to Digivolve. Hikari Yagami and Takeru Takaishi, now fifth graders, still hold their original Digivices. Three classmates, Daisuke Motomiya, tech-savvy Miyako Inoue and her neighbor Iori Hida, receive new D-3 Digivices and join them as the next generation of Chosen Children. With their Digimon partners and the power of the Armored Digi-Eggs, the group sets out to stop the Emperor before his influence covers the whole Digital World. The mix of action, adventure, comedy and drama gives real danger and lighter moments alike.
