The apps you use every day are alive, and this show means it. Haru isn't the screaming protagonist you expect, he's hesitant, careful, actually afraid when the world starts breaking through his phone. By episode 12 you stop asking why this isn't traditional Digimon and start realizing it never needed to be.

Smartphone apps are used by everyone in the world, but inside them live Appmon: AI creatures that can think and act for themselves. They sit on the border between the human world and digital space, letting people and systems work together. Out in the vast internet, a rogue AI known as Leviathan seizes control of the Appmon with a virus and starts hacking every system, reaching into the human world from the net. Haru Shinkai comes to possess a device called the Appli Drive and uses it to bring Gatchmon, a search Appmon, into physical form. Mysteries surround the Appli Drive, the strange field between the net and the real world, the App Combine that can merge two Appmon, and what Leviathan truly wants. The show mixes action, adventure, comedy and drama in a sci-fi fantasy setting.
