Arale is a robot who doesn't understand the rules of the world, so she breaks them completely by accident, and the show has the confidence to let her be genuinely destructive instead of cute about it. Every episode pivots on absurdity piling onto absurdity until the setup collapses into something nobody predicted. The humor comes from watching a genius inventor get outwitted by his own creation's lack of restraint, not from the joke landing the way you expected it to.

Professor Senbei Norimaki is a bumbling inventor who dreams of building the world's best robot girl. The result is Arale, his robot daughter, who has super-strength but is badly nearsighted and lacks any common sense. They live, along with his wife, in Penguin Village, where people share their lives with talking animals and objects. The strange locals include sentient trees and mountains, a superman who is not very super, and alien invaders who only want to get home. Arale means well, yet her antics keep causing trouble for the neighbors in this surreal, whimsical slice-of-life comedy.
