Bardock gets sent back in time and becomes the legend Freeza's entire bloodline will fear, watching him go from dying soldier to planet-saving force of nature in twenty minutes. It's not canon and it doesn't pretend to be; it's a what-if that actually respects what makes Bardock work as a character: pure instinct, pure rage, pure will to protect. A special that knows exactly what it is and executes it without apology.

Bardock, the father of Goku, was supposed to die when Freeza's attack destroyed Planet Vegeta with him on it. Instead he is thrown far back in time, to an age when the planet is still home to strange creatures. There he meets Chilled, a space pirate and ancestor of Freeza, and fights him to protect the planet. The action and sci-fi special is based on a spin-off manga of Dragon Ball and was screened at Jump Festa 2012 in December 2011.
