Twenty years ago, an asteroid on course for Earth destroyed Pluto, and the impact left the rock, now called Thanatos, stalled for a time. To stop it before it can reach Earth, the International Solarsystem Development Agency runs the D-Project and builds the Dragonaut after discovering a dragon egg on the ocean floor. The weapon exists to destroy the asteroid when the moment arrives. Then powerful dragon-like creatures bent on destruction begin appearing on Earth. Jin Kamishina is a lonely 18-year-old who lost his family in a shuttle accident two years earlier. After he witnesses one of the creatures commit a murder, it attacks him, and a mysterious girl named Toa saves him from a deadly fall. Drawn into the mysteries surrounding the dragons, Jin becomes the chosen pilot of the Dragonaut, with Toa at his side. As they dig deeper, they meet new allies and enemies and grow closer to each other. Action and romance meet in a mecha science fiction drama.
