These specials exist for one reason: to watch Ikebukuro's chaos crew be ridiculous together when the plot doesn't matter. A UFO hoax that spirals into pure character comedy, a TV special that becomes an excuse for everyone to show up and mess with Shizuo's brother, these are the moments that make you remember why you loved these people in the first place. They don't move the story forward, and they don't pretend to, they just let the cast breathe and be funny in ways the main series couldn't afford.

Two bonus DVD episodes of Durarara!! bring more action and comedy to Ikebukuro. The first takes place between episodes 12 and 13: word spreads of a UFO over the city, and Celty Sturluson's courier job goes wrong when a suspicious red handbag she is carrying turns out to be wanted by several groups. Men speaking a foreign language chase her across town, and the package pulls many locals into the trouble. The second is set after the finale. Famous actor Yuuhei Hanejima, really Shizuo's younger brother Kasuka Heiwajima, arrives to film a TV special hunting for the best couple to feature in one of his films. When an anonymous internet user threatens his life, Shizuo learns who is behind the plot: the pest he hates most.
