The franchise has already made you watch these people choose sacrifice twice. The Beyond Part 2 is what happens when that choice stops working, when the same defense of the same island collapses into something messier and more human than any alien war could be. You come for the mecha. You stay because these characters have already lost everything that matters, and the show is honest enough to let that wreck them.

Fafner THE BEYOND Part 2 is a 2019 science fiction mecha drama film that collects episodes four through six of Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor - The Beyond. The franchise's earlier entries set the backdrop: humanity is at war with the Festums, silicon-based beings from outer space. After the North Pole Mir broke apart, its scattered fragments became independent Mirs, most of them hostile to humankind and a few willing to live alongside it.
