This is the show that slows your heart rate down. Season two picks up the same rhythm as the first: the mysterious girl, the young monk, and the demon doctor drifting from one human ailment to the next, and the ailment is almost never the point. The cures are folk-medicine slow, the resolutions are quiet, and the real diagnosis is usually grief, greed, or someone who could not let go. There is no power-up arc waiting at the end of it, no escalating threat ladder, just twelve more cases where a demon or ghost turns out to be the symptom and a person is the cause. If you came for spectacle you already left. If you stayed, you know the feeling of a case closing softly and sitting there afterward, not sad exactly, just aware that the trio will walk on and the person they helped will not remember them kindly, or at all.
Tao Yao, a doctor caught somewhere between angel and demon, continues her travels with the young monk Moya and the fox demon who joined them before. Prince Liu, a snake devil, also falls in with the group, and their search for the missing Book of 100 Demons carries them across the world. Along the way they encounter four demons, Zhao Hai, Old Woman Ji, the Hua Snake and Ying Sheng, curing hard-to-treat ailments for monsters and helping humans as the journey goes on.
