Kohei actually does something when he finds out Erika is a vampire instead of spending five episodes asking questions and looking confused. The show drags through its middle like it's killing time, but the final quarter suddenly remembers it has a story to tell. By the end you understand why the isolation of that island and the weight of her secret mattered all along.

Kohei Hasekura transfers to a prestigious school on Tamatsu Island, off the coast of mainland Japan and reachable only by boat. Modeled on an English six-year school, it takes in both junior high and high school students. Soon after he arrives, Kohei learns that Erika Sendo, a student in the class next to his, is a vampire. Adapted from a visual novel by August, the twelve-episode TV series mixes comedy, romance and the supernatural.
