Two elementary school kids pilot the world's last defense mecha, and the whole show is built on whether they can stop fighting each other long enough to fight aliens. Their fights inside the cockpit hurt more than the robot fights outside it. Dendoh only works when they actually trust each other, which means every battle is really about whether their friendship holds under pressure that would break adults.

In the future, war machines sent by Garufa, a hostile empire of mechanical aliens, finally reach Earth. To defend the planet, humanity forms an organization called GEAR, short for Guard Earth and Advanced Reconnaissance. Its greatest weapon is the giant robot GEAR Fighter Dendoh, and its pilots are two elementary school students, Hokuto Kusanagi and Ginga Izumo. The central question is whether the bond between the two boys can bring out everything Dendoh is capable of in the fight against Garufa. Mecha action for a TV run of 38 episodes.
