This is pure 90s mecha excess before the genre learned restraint. Three kids piloting a robot that literally screams transformation sequences while the show treats apocalypse like a Tuesday afternoon problem. The pacing never stops to explain itself, it just assumes you're already invested and throws you into the next catastrophe. Getter Robo Go moves like it's running out of animation budget and time, which somehow makes it feel more alive than shows with twice the resources. You don't watch this for narrative elegance. You watch it because some animator decided the robot's fist needed to be on fire, and nobody told them to stop.
Set in the year 200X, this mecha action adventure pits Doctor Randow and his mechanical monsters, the Metal Beasts, against a world whose ordinary weapons cannot stop them. Japan's Defense Agency turns to NISAR, the Japan International Aerospace Corporation, which has built the Getter Robot. Though it was designed for exploration rather than war, pilot Ichimonji Gou takes it into battle with support from Daidou Gai and Tachibana Shinichi, and they hold their own against the Metal Beasts. As the danger grows, the Getter Robot is rebuilt as a transforming combat machine, crewed by Gou, Gai and Shinichi's sister Shou.
