The tank combat in this film doesn't just look better than everything else in anime right now. It moves like a living thing, with camera work that makes you feel the metal and dirt and speed instead of just watching it happen from a distance. By the time you see a tank drifting down a snowy mountain or a turret snap-tracking across a valley, the show has already proven it earned the right to go completely unhinged with what tanks can do. The action sequences are so specifically crafted and absurdly creative that they hit different on rewatch. You come back to see the engineering of a shot, not the outcome of the battle.

In the semifinals of the Winter Continuous Track Cup, the team loses a key crew early in its match against Continuity Academy and has to change its plan on the fly. With her usual leaders out of the fight, Azusa Sawa steps in as acting commander. Elsewhere, Kuromorimine's Erika Itsumi, a strategist who pioneered her own unconventional approach to tank warfare, squares off against St. Gloriana's Darjeeling in a desert clash, while a recent transfer to St. Gloriana complicates Kuromorimine's push toward the final. Part 4 splits its focus between two high-stakes semifinal matches as four schools compete for two places in the championship round.
