The premise inverts every power fantasy superhero anime sells you, then commits to it completely. Season 2 finally lets you inside the villain's head long enough to understand why the "heroes" deserve to lose, and that shift from watching Sentouin D scheme to actually rooting for him lands harder than it has any right to. The pacing collapses under its own ambition in the back half, cramming plot that needed breathing room, but by then you're too invested in whether a monster-hunting ranger can actually change what it means to be a hero.

Sentouin D has slipped into the Ranger Force disguised as Hibiki Sakurama, and his plan to defeat the heroic Dragon Keepers is closer to success than ever. While working out where in the Force he can do the most damage, he is placed in the Green Squadron, a unit charged with hunting down and wiping out boss monsters that have been missing for a long time. His teammates are fellow newcomer Angel Usukubo, their senior Kanon Hisui, and Chidori, an informant whose background is unclear. Their first job is to look into strange goings-on at an abandoned school where delinquents hang out. The investigation leads them into a trap, and they soon work out that a boss monster is pulling the strings. To keep chasing his dream of a world without boss monsters or Dragon Keepers, Sentouin D has to escape together with the rest of the squad. This second season mixes action, comedy, drama and sci-fi.
