A kid moves to the countryside he doesn't want to be in, afraid his missing mother won't find him, and discovers lure fishing instead of looking for her. That's the entire show. A boy grieving in disguise, learning that sometimes what saves you doesn't look like salvation at first, that the act of waiting can become something else entirely. Every cast and retrieve is him saying yes to being somewhere, even if it's not Tokyo. The show costs you nothing but time and gives you a reason to care about bass fishing in ways no other anime even tries.

Musashi's mother walked out three years ago, but he is sure she will come home. When his father moves them from Tokyo to a rural village, Musashi hates it, begs to go back, and worries his mother will not be able to find them. Soon after, he spots a man using a decoy to catch bass, and lure fishing captivates him. The man teaches him a great deal, and Musashi learns that his mother's father was once a grand champion of bass fishing. Believing the sport might lead him back to his mother, Musashi reveals a remarkable gift for it and travels the world hunting extraordinary fish, slowly learning to love life close to nature.
