Nyarlko treats cosmic horror like a setup for a joke and expects you to keep up. The humor lives in that gap between what a lovecraftian entity should be doing and what she's actually doing, which is annoying a tired teenage boy into saying something cutting enough to make her cry for three seconds before she does it again. Four minutes is exactly long enough for the punchline to land before you realize you've forgotten what she was talking about, which is the point.

Nyarlko is a cute silver-haired girl who is really Nyarlathotep, the ancient monster god of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, reimagined in female form. Her wild and foolish antics keep drawing scoldings from Mahiro, an ordinary human boy. When she sketches a racy body pillow cover starring a half-dressed Mahiro alongside herself, he answers with a fork to her hand and a threat to end her if the design ever gets out. Other gags sometimes bring in Cthuko, a female take on Cthugha who is hopelessly in love with Nyarlko. These comedy Flash shorts spin off the Haiyore! Nyaruko-san light novels and add up to about twenty minutes. They came packaged with limited edition copies of the fourth novel.
