Nyarlko treats cosmic horror like a setup for a joke and expects you to keep up. The humor lives in that gap between what a lovecraftian entity should be doing and what she's actually doing, which is annoying a tired teenage boy into saying something cutting enough to make her cry for three seconds before she does it again. SYNOPSIS
Nyarlko is a cheerful alien girl who just happens to be a cosmic horror deity in disguise. She's decided that Mahiro, an ordinary high school student, needs her constant attention and protection. Problem is, her idea of help usually involves embarrassing him, making questionable merchandise featuring his face, or dragging him into ridiculous situations that spiral faster than he can process. Mahiro's primary job becomes damage control. Whether he's fending off Nyarlko's increasingly inappropriate schemes with a fork, stopping her from ruining his reputation, or just trying to have a normal day without interdimensional weirdness, he's perpetually exhausted. His exasperation is played entirely straight against Nyarlko's oblivious enthusiasm, which creates a comedic contrast that drives almost every joke. These Flash animation shorts don't pretend to be anything serious. They're quick hits of absurdist humor built on the collision between cosmic-level power and complete social incompetence.
