Yuuko wakes up a demon and decides the most urgent problem in her life is affording pancakes. The magical girl she's supposed to fight becomes her best friend instead, and their whole dynamic is built on Yuuko being aggressively, unapologetically bad at being evil. It's a show that takes the magical girl genre, flips it sideways, and then refuses to let go of the joke because the joke is actually about two girls finding each other and deciding friendship matters more than a cosmic war that's been running since forever.
SYNOPSIS
Yuuko wakes up to find horns sprouting from her head and a tail swishing behind her. Her mother's timing is terrible: turns out the family curse has activated, and they're demons. Not the evil kind necessarily, just the broke kind, living in poverty while their ancestral powers have been sealed away by magical girls for generations. To reclaim even a fraction of their strength, Yuuko needs to defeat the local magical girl and absorb her power. Simple plan. Except Momo, the cheerful magical girl in question, goes to Yuuko's school. And she's genuinely nice. And keeps accidentally saving Yuuko from various disasters. And now Yuuko's stuck in the world's most awkward rivalry, constantly torn between her family's survival and the fact that Momo might actually be her best friend. There's also the matter of all-you-can-eat pancakes, which motivates everything. This is a comedy that flips the script on magical girl stories by making the villain sympathetic, broke, and genuinely just trying to fund a decent brunch.
