Two inches tall, living in a mushroom, and somehow the most peaceful hour of anime you'll watch this year. Hakumei and Mikochi doesn't build toward anything, it sits with you while two friends navigate a world that feels lived in, mundane, and utterly safe. The first segment is slight, almost inconsequential, but that's exactly the point: this show knows that comfort doesn't require stakes, that watching someone fix a bed or gamble away an evening can feel like home.

Hakumei and Mikochi: A Screw and a Bed / The Fireside and Gambling is a single-episode OVA from 2018, released as a special on the second Blu-ray and DVD volume of Hakumei and Mikochi. It is a bonus episode of the series that pairs fantasy with slice-of-life storytelling.
