A teacher with a demon hand punching ghosts to save his students sounds ridiculous until you realize it commits completely to that absurdity. Nube has the charm to make you actually care about protecting kids from yokai that could be anywhere, and the monster-of-the-week structure lets you decompress without tracking some labyrinthine plot. The Japanese folklore backdrop makes familiar ghost story tropes feel lived-in rather than recycled.

In the small city of Doumori, strange phenomena keep piling up as spiritual forces fall out of balance. Meisuke Nueno, called Nube, arrives as a new homeroom teacher at Doumori Elementary School. He seems gentle and a little outgoing, but he is really an exorcist, said to be the only psychic teacher in Japan, and a demonic power is sealed in his left hand. When youkai, ghosts and school legends threaten his students, Nube uses that hand and his knowledge of the occult to fight back, beginning with a transfer student whose angry outbursts point to possession. Drawing on Japanese folklore, the show mixes action, comedy and horror around a teacher who will stop at nothing to keep the children in his care safe.
