Aki grew up in a village where the zombie apocalypse is just history, something that happened to other people. The moment she steps outside, that distance collapses. She's searching for her dad in a dead world that feels more alive than anywhere she's ever been, and the show knows the difference between surviving and actually living is sometimes just a matter of perspective.
Thirteen years after a plague wiped out most of humanity, the few survivors huddle in remote settlements, watching the cities from a distance. Aki grows up in this new world, where zombies shamble through abandoned streets and the old civilization feels like mythology. With no memory of life before the fall, she slips out of her village alongside her friends Haru and Natsuki to look for her missing father. Once outside, the trio quickly finds itself hemmed in by the undead. They save two others, Yuu and Sakura, and shelter inside a home improvement store, where the group gathers itself to strike back. The tone mixes horror and mystery with comedy, letting characters find moments of levity even as death waits around every turn.
